Grégoire Motte

Residency in Japan

November 2004

artconnexion selected Grégoire Motte for a residency in Japan in 2004.

Thanks to artconnexion's network, Grégoire Motte began his trip in Kobe where he was welcomed by Sadaharu Horio, an artist from the Gutai movement whom artconnexion hosted in December 2004; then to Tokyo where he exhibited at the Weekenders Gallery and was put in contact with Matthieu Manche, an artist hosted at artconnexion in 1996.

This stay in Tokyo and Kobe allowed him to discover two cities with very different atmospheres and artistic riches, the culture of a country and to confront his work with a new audience.

Grégoire Motte took advantage of an ‘Artconnexion Tuesday’ to present a new project of Japanese drawing on a bulgomme tablecloth made in Roubaix. This work links two cultures encountered during the artist's personal journey.
