Monobloc
Residency in Ault
October - November 2020
artconnexion supported the radio collective Monobloc for a one-month residency, from October to November 2020, in the town of Ault (Somme). The residency project was built around the territory of Ault, its inhabitants and their issues. In October 2020, MONOBLOC settled in the town of Ault for a one-month radio residency. They set up a small unit on the Grande Rue, the one that ends in the sea, at the foot of the cliff, under the sky that changes colour every 45 seconds or so.
The residency began with an event organised in the space provided by the inhabitants of Ault. During the following two weeks, the members of the collective gathered sounds from inhabitants of the area (interviews, walks, field recording, texts read and recorded...)
10 one-hour programmes were produced and broadcasted between 3 and 13 November 2020.
These broadcasts were made up of testimonies from the inhabitants of Ault, some of whom were already involved in their community, and others who were much more discreet.
Soundtracks made by members of the collective, often inspired by the territory, were added to these life stories. Other contributions, from outside of Ault, were collected thanks to a call launched at the beginning of the residency on the theme of "flight".
The collective also ran workshops on radio creation for teenagers and people on social welfare.
