Simon Patterson
La Maison Forestière - Time Piece
26 April - 30 May 2008
artconnexion presents at 9 rue du Cirque the project of the citizen's commission La Maison Forestière by Simon Patterson and various works made from the project (paintings, lithographs, editions). A video by the artist Time Piece is also presented in the projection space upstairs.
Having noted that many British visitors came to Ors to pay tribute to Wilfred Owen, the British poet-soldier killed during an offensive on 4 November 1918, the mayor of the village and the association of the Friends of Wilfred Owen wanted to set up an art project around the Maison Forestière in which the poet spent his last days and composed his final writings. The project highlights the contemporary and universal nature of his work.
For the Maison Forestière, Simon Patterson, an English artist, proposed to keep only the minimal characteristic elements of a house and to invest the interior space with the poetry of Wilfred Owen (projections and texts on the walls). At the request of the commissioning group, the house itself was to be the work of art. Events around contemporary poetry are organised there.
