Pierre Ardouvin

The island

19 May - 23 June 2007

For this exhibition, Pierre Ardouvin presents three new works that oscillate between the landscape and the domestic universe. L'île 2007 is a fragment of a floor that seems to float a few centimetres above the ground. The only human trace is a coat rack covered with green clothes. The lightning, drawn by bulbs hanging on the wall, produces a flash every two seconds. The living room is an interior where the furniture is simply sawed in half, leaving the sofa and table slumped, abandoned. The exhibition suggests, as does all of Pierre Ardouvin's work, an uncertain and ambivalent atmosphere, torn between the idea of a stereotyped happiness and a muted violence. Through perverted idyllic visions, incongruous festive elements, uninhabitable or deserted interiors, nature and culture interfere with each other to form an unstable world where harmony and chaos seem to clash.
