Éléonore Saintagnan
Les Malchanceux
12 - 16 mars 2012
artconnexion is showing the film Les Malchanceux (26 min), made by Éléonore Saintagnan during her residency in Montreuil-sur-Mer in 2010-2011, in the "project room" at 9 rue du cirque in Lille.
This artist residency was set up by artconnexion in collaboration with the Communauté de Communes du Montreuillois, as part of a programme to raise awareness of contemporary art among local residents, and as a prelude to the creation of a covered wattle and daub quill, a New Patrons project that was never completed.
The artist residency led to the production of a video-film, a creative documentary based on the practice of bowling.
Synopsis: In order to preserve the memory of this traditional game, players from the Montreuillois area re-enact a tournament on an old disused bowling alley, and give a technical and historical presentation of this traditional game that has become a competitive sport. Despite these changes, bowling has always remained above all a convivial tradition, with the skittles always located near a bar or refreshment stand. Through this historical and sporting documentary, the author provides a series of portraits of the inhabitants of the Pas-de-Calais countryside threatened with desertification.
